About FowlVoice
FowlVoice is a free native Mac app for private voice dictation and voice controlled AI commands.
What it does
FowlVoice turns speech into text in any Mac app. It supports push to talk, hands free recording, and Flow Mode, which listens for an activation phrase and sends the following words to a chosen app. It can also rewrite selected text by voice and answer questions about a selected region of the screen.
Who makes it
FowlVoice is made by a solo developer. You can follow the work and contact the maker on X at @argofowl. There is no company account or support team between the person building the app and the people using it.
Why it is free and local
FowlVoice is free. It has no account, subscription, or cost. Core speech recognition runs on the Mac, so normal dictation works offline and audio does not leave the computer. The optional AssemblyAI engine sends audio to that service only when a user enables it with their own API key.
What it runs on
FowlVoice requires macOS 14 or later on a Mac with Apple silicon. Intel Macs are not supported. AI commands require macOS 26 or later. Dictation supports more than 25 languages with automatic language detection through the multilingual Parakeet model.
